Common Questions

Common questions answered

Common questions about using EnDAO and participating in Groups.

What is EnDAO?

EnDAO lets groups pool money, manage shared assets, and make decisions together with structural accountability, not just trust. Money moves only under the approval rule your group set, and every Decision is recorded.

For the longer version, see What is EnDAO?

How technical do I need to be to use EnDAO?

Not very. Sign up with your email, fill in your name and username, and you're ready to join or create a Group. If you can use email and fill out forms, you can use EnDAO.

Is EnDAO free to use?

Creating an account, joining Groups, and creating a Group are all free.

How many Groups can I join?

There's no limit. You can be a member of as many Groups as you like.

Can I leave a Group?

Yes. Open the Group's Members page and choose Leave Group from the menu beside Invite. You'll be asked to confirm, and once you leave you lose access to everything inside the Group — if it only admits people by invitation, you would need a new one to come back.

The one case that stops you is being the only Owner left. A Group is never left without one, so give someone else the Owner role first and the option opens up. If that applies to you, the dialog says so before you can confirm rather than after.

What happens to my votes if I leave?

Your past votes stay recorded for the Group's history. Any votes you cast on Decisions that are still open at the time you leave continue to count.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, you can delete your account from your profile settings. Some data (like votes you cast on Decisions) may be retained for the Groups' record. Deleting your account removes your personal profile but doesn't erase the history of Decisions you participated in.

How do I change my Group's voting rules?

In Settings, under Rules. The quorum, the pass share and the voting period are all set there, and they apply to Decisions raised from then on — Decisions already open keep the rules they were created under. A Group that has turned on sign-off for governance changes will see the change queued for a second administrator rather than applying at once. A Group that would rather decide it together can instead put it to the whole membership as a “How we vote” Rule-change Decision. See How Many Have to Vote, and How Many Have to Agree.

Does EnDAO handle taxes for my Group?

No. An Owner can generate a Payee Summary for a tax year (one row per person or organization your Group paid), which gives your accountant the numbers behind every payment. It isn't a 1099, and it doesn't decide what's reportable. See What We Report, and What We Don't.

Why isn't my Group showing up in search?

Five separate things all have to be true at once, and missing any one of them keeps your Group off the public browse page:

  • The discoverable switch is turned on.
  • Your Group has a topic set.
  • Your Group is at the Live activation tier, not Sandbox or Unlisted.
  • Its status is active.
  • Its visibility is set to “Anyone”. “Our network” means link-only and is never listed.

See Who Can See This Group? for why these are four separate settings rather than one.

What if I have a question that isn't covered?

Most common questions are answered in the rest of the docs. The sidebar covers getting started, voting, treasury, and more. If you're still stuck, get in touch.
